Donner Summit Tunnel

Donner summit tunnel is a redevelopment project based on the history of the chinese workers who built the tunnel. Through a linear space experience, the visitors will be taken into the hisotry to experience the development of the story from different perspectives as they are going from the past to present to future. The history will be presented to visitors in two ways: either people interpreting the history; or people being the subject of the history itself. As people are experiencing all these different moments, people will get a better understanding of the locality of donner summit tunnel as a place of the history, and more importantly, remembering the history of the chinese workers.

The railroad company provided meals to white workers. Chinese workers, however, had to secure their own provisions, which they bought primarily from San Francisco merchants.

The railroad company also provided dormitory train cars for white workers, while Chinese workers lived in tents.

Chinese exclusive act was published in 1882 which stopped chiness workers becoming to be legal immigrant.

With such a huge achievement of the railroad, chinese people where still been treated unfairly all the way until 1943
